1) Take the Johnsonville exit off the motorway. You’ll pass under the motorway and come immediately to a traffic island.
2) Take the third exit off the traffic roundabout, and you almost immediately come to a second, smaller roundabout.
3) Take the first exit left (Bassett Rd), and turn immediately left into Ironside Road.
4) Follow the road up and over the hill - it automatically becomes Ohariu Valley Road as you leave the suburb behind. You’re now in the country.
5) Keep following the road - drive carefully as it's quite narrow and winding at times. Watch especially for horses, cyclists, geese and ducks.
6) After about five kilometres you come to an intersection (you'll know it when you see it, it’s the only one we’ve got!). Turn right, as this is where Ohariu Valley Road continues. (Do NOT go straight ahead or you’ll end up at Makara, 11 kilometres away.)
7) Drive past the riding stables on your left, past an open field, and the first house on the left (light grey with a charcoal roof) is where Ohariu Lodge is. The number 535 is on the mailbox and there's a sign 'Ohariu Lodge' beside it.
8) Turn into the driveway and once you’ve checked in at the house you can re-park your car at the lodge via the second entrance.
9) Relax; you’ve arrived!
Arriving from the south on State Highway 1:
1) Take the Johnsonville exit at the top of Ngauranga Gorge (just past the flyover).
2) This automatically takes you into Johnsonville’s main street, where you will very soon come to some traffic lights.
3) Go straight through the lights and continue past the shops. You’ll see Woolworth’s Supermarket and car park on your right.
4) After passing a second set of (pedestrian crossing) lights you come to a traffic island. Take the second exit off the roundabout, and you almost immediately come to a second, smaller roundabout.
5) Take the first exit left (Bassett Rd), and turn immediately left into Ironside Road.
