Ohariu Valley is a rural area of rolling hill
farms and horse-riding stables 17 kilometres (10 miles) to the north-west of Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city.
The nearest
suburb, Johnsonville – with 24-hour supermarket and a variety of other stores –
is a pleasant five kilometre (three mile) drive away. Johnsonville is also a
transport hub, with rail and bus options into the city.
Wellington’s International Airport has daily flights to all parts of
the country as well as Australia and the Pacific Islands. The city is is also the gateway to
the South Island,
with inter-island ferries offering a variety of daily sailings.
From Ohariu Valley, State Highway 1 takes you to all
parts north, with an alternative exploratory route being SH 2 through Wairarapa
and Hawke’s Bay – major North Island wine-growing regions.
